Arne Slot has hinted at the potential of extending his Liverpool stay, revealing an insight into why Jurgen Klopp remained at the helm of Anfield for nearly a decade.
As the current manager edges closer to clinching the Premier League crown in his inaugural campaign following Klopp’s departure – and with Virgil van Dijk poised to provide another monumental lift by emulating Mohamed Salah’s recent commitment with a two-season extension – it seems the allure of Liverpool is quite powerful.
Commencing with a three-year deal after arriving from Feyenoord last year, Slot is coy about discussing his future. However, he openly expresses a deep fondness for the club that transcends the sport itself.
Slot remarked: “It isn’t only the results. The people who work here and the fans we have are, I think, what makes this club so special.
“I know the outside world is looking at all the goals or the wins we make. But I think that to enjoy your life on a daily basis, you need to be happy from when you drive in.
“That’s one of the reasons people like to be here. It’s why Jurgen stayed so long – and why Mo wants to stay here two more years despite being here for so long already. It’s why, in general, players, managers, people work so long at this club. There’s a great culture and a lot of nice people working here.

“From the start, I felt really welcome and really happy here in the way I can work at this club with the staff, with the players, with the facilities. It always helps if results are positive as well. That’s the X-Factor you need.”
Slot is on the brink of joining an elite group, potentially becoming only the fourth manager to clinch the Premier League title in his maiden season at the helm, following in the footsteps of Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte who achieved this feat in 2005 and 2017 respectively, along with Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini in 2014, and Leicester City’s Claudio Ranieri in 2016.
Liverpool, currently perched atop the league table, play hosts to West Ham at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. The clash offers the Reds a prime opportunity to widen their lead and solidify their position in the hunt for the coveted Premier League crown.
