What a win, ladies.

Bayern Munich took an enormous step forward towards claiming the Frauen-Bundesliga title on Saturday with a 3-0 road win over second-placed Eintracht Frankfurt.

The result takes the Bavarians nine points clear of their rivals with three matches to go. VfL Wolfsburg, at the time of the match, had a game in hand and was also nine points behind.

However, this was probably the big one. The top two teams in the league by standing squaring off, full of Germany women’s national team players each. Frankfurt finished with 58% possession and 15 shots to Bayern’s 10 — but the Bavarians pounced and made it decisive when it mattered, resulting in a scoreline that was utterly dominant.

All three Bayern goals were powerful finishes from first-time hits. First was Lea Schüller taking advantage of good work by Klara Bühl in the 12th minute to strike home from right in front of goal. Then Bühl herself, assisted by Pernille Harder, hit paydirt with a low drive near the half-hour mark. Finally Pernille Harder latched on to a defender’s headed clearance inside the box to volley in for Bayern’s third.

The Frankfurt coach was dismissed in the first half for protestations after Bühl’s goal, which underwent a review for offside.
