Ange Postecoglou‘s Tottenham Hotspur have now won just one of their last six Premier League matches after losing 3-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Sunday.

Vitor Pereira‘s hosts wasted no time and raced into an early lead after just 85 seconds courtesy of left-back Rayan Ait Nouri, whose fine volley beat Guglielmo Vicario after the goalkeeper’s clearance from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde‘s free kick fell short.

Wolves then added a second before half time when Vicario failed to deal with a bouncing cross from Ait Nouri and parried the ball onto a helpless Djed Spence, who had no time to react.

Loanee forward Mathys Tel pulled one back for the visitors around the hour mark, but his teammates continued their calamity of errors when Cristian Romero lost the ball and gifted a third goal to their opponents only five minutes later.

However, this topsy-turvy game had more drama in store when Richarlison came off the bench to make it 3-2 following a corner, though Tottenham were once again the architects of their own downfall when Bergvall lost the ball a minute later for Matheus Cunha to restore Wolves’ two-goal cushion and seize all three points for his side.

SPORTS MOLE’S VERDICT

Despite being all but mathematically secure in the top flight, Wolves boss Pereira will be pleased that his team are now 14 points clear of Ipswich Town in the drop zone with six games to play.

He will also be delighted that the Old Gold have won four on the bounce and have extended their unbeaten run to five matches with an impressive win over Spurs.

As for Tottenham, Postecoglou has been under intense scrutiny in recent weeks, and after falling to their 17th defeat of the league campaign, the manager will certainly be feeling the pressure.

That being said, if he can get his side past Entracht Frankfurt and into the Europa League semi-final in midweek, then the troubles that Spurs have faced domestically could be overlooked.

2nd min: Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur (Rayan Ait Nouri)

Tottenham goalkeeper Vicario punches Bellegarde’s free kick clear, but the ball only goes as far as Rayan Ait Nouri on the edge of the box, and the left-back fires a volley into the bottom-right corner.

38th min: Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur (Died Spence og)

Ait Nouri crosses the ball into the box from the left flank and though it fails to be met by a strong connection, Vicario makes a mess of the bounce and parries it onto Djed Spence, who unfortunately gets an own goal on his record.

59th min: Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur (Mathys Tel)

Spurs work the ball out well from the back – Cristian Romero passes to Lucas Bergvall, who drives forward and slides in Brennan Johnson on the right wing, who plays a cross towards Bayern Munich loanee Mathys Tel, and the versatile young forward bundles the ball into the back of the net via a deflection off of Nelson Semedo.

Game on!

64th min: Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur (Jorgen Strand Larsen)

Just moments after starting the move that led to his side’s goal, Romero makes an error to help Wolves restore their lead!

The hosts play a long pass forward that is intercepted by the Tottenham centre-back, but Ait Nouri snatches the ball from him and lays it on a plate for Jorgen Strand Larsen to tap home from close range.

85th min: Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 Tottenham Hotspur (Richarlison)

Pereira’s men fail to deal with a Bergvall corner, and after Romero manages a shot on goal, the rebound from Jose Sa‘s save falls to Richalison, who gives the visitors some hope late on.

86th min: Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-2 Tottenham Hotspur (Matheus Cunha)

Matheus Cunha steals the ball from Bergvall, drives past Ben Davies and fires a powerful shot past Vicario to seal three points for Wolves.

Tottenham truly have been the creators of their own downfall with the sheer number of mistakes that they have made today.

MAN OF THE MATCH – RAYAN AIT NOURI

The left-back set the tone for Wolves with a goal after just 85 seconds – the fastest Premier League goal in the club’s history – as well as contributing to his side’s second and laying on assist for Strand Larsen’s third.

The Algerian full-back has been one of the standout performers in a team that have been battling relegation this season, and with performances like this, it is no surprise that he has been courted by some of the biggest teams in the Premier League.
