Rory McIlroy’s Masters win was a long time in the making, and to some, it looked like he would never overcome his Augusta National boogeymen.
It took the Rory McIlroy 17 attempts before he eventually lifted the green jacket over his shoulders.
The Northern Irish hero’s win wasn’t without setbacks; a rollercoaster of a final round left his dreams hanging in the balance. A bogey on the final hole felt eerily similar to McIlroy’s 2024 U.S open defeat to Bryson DeChambeau.
Fortunately, this time he found success in the playoff against Justin Rose.
Upon sinking his winning putt – and etching himself into golfs history books – the superstar fell to his knees, showered in relief.
McIlroy became the first player to achieve the career grand slam since Tiger Woods, and just the sixth man to achieve the feat in history.
McIlroy posts heartfelt tribute on social media
Despite the setbacks, McIlroy got there eventually, and his most recent post on socials exudes emotion.
The five-time major winner took to social media, releasing a video montage of some of his worst moments throughout his years on the coveted course.
From a final round nightmare, to missed cuts and wayward shots, the video elegantly showcases the golfers long, winding road to Masters success.
After finally beating his demons and realising his dreams, the video serves as a important reminder towards the importance of never giving up.
McIlroy keen to get back in action as Masters Champion
It won’t be long until we see the Brit next tee-off, after a short break to celebrate, McIlroy appears keen to stay loose and maintain his world-beating run of form.
He travels to Zurich on April 24, competing in a team event with fellow countryman Shane Lowry.
Then, following an appearance at the Truist Championship on May 8, he will begin preparation for the second major of 2025, the PGA Championship.
The 35-year-old has claimed victory here twice before, and upon finally ending his major drought, many people have him as the favourite heading into the competition.
