Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca retains the support of his Board – for now.
That, though, could change if he fails to secure Champions League football next season.
The weekend’s draw with Ipswich Town meant that Chelsea are currently sixth in the Premier League, which means, even with the additional place on offer because of their UEFA co-efficient, that would only be good enough for a place in the Europa League.
And, with a tough run of games to come, especially on the road where the club has been struggling recently, there are no guarantees they will get the points they need.
Nevertheless, publicly at least, the club owners continue to back the Italian, although whether privately they have already begun to draw up a shortlist of replacements cannot be discounted as a possibility.
Given though that the club are expected to again spend heavily in the summer transfer market, it would be helpful to settle the managerial question before the window opens.
