Arsenal and Real set to do battle again

1 Min Read

Just days after their Champions League quarter-final, Arsenal and Real Madrid are set to to battle again, this time for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García.

The shot stopper came close to joining the Gunners last summer, but the two clubs could not agree on a valuation. Those links have not gone away though, and there have been reports that he could soon be heading to the Emirates.

But there are now suggestions that Real may be about to hijack any deal, with concerns about rhe long-term future of Thibaut Courtois at the club. Courtois was probably Real’s best player over two legs against the Gunners but he is getting older and increasingly prone to injury.

And with his back-up Andriy Lunin expected to depart the club in search of regular first-team football, García could be an ideal replacement, and somebody who can be groomed to eventually take over as number one at the club.
