As Daniel Farke’s future at Leeds is questioned, Jose Mourinho has been tipped as a potential replacement.
While the German manager only achieved promotion from the Championship on Monday, his track record in the top division has already come under scrutiny.
Mourinho, who started managing Fenerbache in June 2024 after two seasons at Chelsea and stints at Manchester United and Tottenham, has previously hinted at his willingness to return to British football.
However, instead of a fifth season in the Premier League, Mourinho expressed interest in managing in Scotland.
The former Chelsea manager said that a tenure at the helm of Celtic or Rangers could motivate him in the future.
But talkSPORT host Alan Brazil believes that Mourinho would rather join Leeds over a stint at a Scottish team.
“Mourinho, would he go in at one of the three that are coming up?” said Brazil on talkSPORT Breakfast.
Co-host Sam Ellard responded: “Mourinho has been linked with Leeds.”
“You tell me that he [Mourinho] would fancy Rangers ahead of Leeds? No chance. He’d want Leeds,” continued Brazil.
Ellard agreed: “He’d take a way back to the Premier League. Every day of the week.”
Leeds secured promotion on Monday after third-place Sheffield United were defeated by Burnley.
Farke, who joined the South Yorkshire side in 2023 following their relegation, has returned the Whites to the top division.
While the 48-year-old has two years left on his contract, Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor hinted that sacking that the German could be the right decision given the ‘ruthless’ industry.
Speaking to Brazil and Ellard, Agbonlahor said: “His record in the Premier League: 52 games, 9 wins, 30 defeats.
“I just think a club of Leeds stature, they’re out of the Premier League for how many years, 18, 19 years? They’ve got back in, relegated.
“These owners might look at it and say nah, we’ve got to be ruthless.”
“We’ve seen Bournemouth do it, with Gary O’Neil. Got rid of Gary O’Neil, went and got Iraola and look at them now.
“I wouldn’t want to see it, because I think it’s ruthless but you never know with these owners.”
talkSPORT understands that the club’s owners plan to review the managerial situation at the end of the season.
However, they have been impressed by Farke’s ruthless decision to drop Illan Meslier.
The newly promoted side will hope not to follow in the footsteps of other clubs who have recently made their way out of the Championship.
All three newly promoted teams suffered relegation for the first time since 1998 last season.
With Southampton and Leicester on their way down, and Ipswich looking likely to join them, it will be the second season where all three newly promoted teams have been sent back to the Championship.
