Goalkeepers:
After a breakout season last year, Atubolu has gone from strength to strength in the Freiburg goal. He even set a new club record between February and March for the most minutes without conceding in the Bundesliga with 609 minutes, surpassing Richard Golz’s previous Freiburg best of 509 minutes.
Baumann has been as reliable as ever in the Hoffenheim goal, even despite the Sinsheimers struggling following last season’s success. He is among the top goalkeepers for saves made this season and is now approaching 500 Bundesliga appearances.
Like Baumann, Gulácsi has been in the Bundesliga for a number of years and despite now being in his mid-thirties, he is still improving. This season, he has played an important role in Leipzig’s chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League with some heroic performances between the sticks.
Despite being part of a relegation battle, St. Pauli have one of the best defences in the league. Key to this is the presence of Vasilj. He has barely put a foot wrong all season and should St. Pauli beat the drop, then Vasilj can take his share of the plaudits.
Mainz have been the surprise package this season and they are right in the fight for European football next term. An important part of the 05ers’ success this term can be found in the hands of goalkeeper Zentner, the local favourite who celebrated his 200th appearance for the club with many a spectaular save and a new contract.
