A controversial list ranking all 92 Premier League and EFL clubs from ‘elite’ to ‘tinpot’ has emerged online, and it’s got fans talking.

As you may expect, the three most well-supported clubs in the country – Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool – are the three sides that make up the three-team elite category put together by Football Tweet.

Aston Villa, Chelsea, Leeds, Leicester City, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham United are ranked as ‘massive’.

However, the ‘big’ section is rather questionable, as Everton are ranked alongside the likes of Preston North End, Southampton, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Moving into the ‘average’ part of the list, clubs such as Wigan Athletic, Bolton Wanderers and Cardiff City feature alongside Premier League side’s including Fulham and Bournemouth.

Then comes the ‘small’ category, with Salford City, Tranmere Rovers, Walsall and even top-flight Brentford listed.

Finally, the ‘tinpot’ section includes Fleetwood, Morecambe, Swindon, Harrogate, and Carlisle United, just to name a few of the unfortunate side’s named in the bottom part of the list.

And almost obviously, fans were quick to leap to the defence of their respective clubs on social media.

One Everton fan said: “You have Leeds, Spurs, Leicester, Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham above Everton? In what world does that logic work?”

A Spurs supporter added: “Spurs deserve it for their rich European history alone. First British team to win a title in 63 – 4 other finals including a CL final and maybe just maybe a chance of a 6 European final this season.”

Then a Chelsea fan explained: “A team with 2 UCL titles is under ‘Massive’ while a team that has a golden PL trophy is ‘Elite’?”

While another Everton fan commented: “Sorry. How are Newcastle in massive? 1 trophy in 70 years. Yet Everton 9x league champions 5x FA cup and European success are in big? Newcastle aren’t a big club. Never have been, never will be.”

As a Bristol City supporter claimed: “Bristol City are the biggest club never to have played in the Premier League, that is a cold hard fact that nobody can take away from us or ignore, HOPEFULLY it could change soon though.”
