Marcus Rashford is likely to be unavailable for “some weeks” as Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery confirmed the striker had suffered a hamstring injury.

Rashford, who has scored four goals in 17 appearances for Villa since his winter loan move from Manchester United, was not in Emery’s matchday squad for their 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final.

Emery refused to clarify if the 27-year-old forward was expected to return to fitness this season.

“He’s injured,” Emery said after the FA Cup semi-final defeat. “He got injured this week, and yesterday we did a test, and he’s injured his hamstring.

“We are going to try to test him each match, how he’s progressing, but at the beginning, he’s injured, and probably for some weeks he can not be available.”

Rashford joined Villa on loan from United in February for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign, and he was selected ahead of Ollie Watkins in the starting line-up for both Champions League quarter-final matches against Paris Saint-Germain, alongside this week’s Premier League defeat at Manchester City.

Villa, who are currently covering three-quarters of Rashford’s £325,000 per week wages plus additional bonuses, hold an option to make the 27-year-old’s move permanent for £40million (€47.8m, $49.5m) in the summer.

Emery’s side return to action at home to Fulham on May 3, before concluding their campaign with a trip to Bournemouth (May 10), home match against Tottenham Hotspur (May 18) and visit to Manchester United (May 25).
