According to former England keeper Paul Robinson, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s transfer from Liverpool to Real Madrid is a done deal and said there is no chance of a U-turn.
The ex-Spurs ‘keeper suggested that the Liverpool bigwigs are in the loop about the near-finalized arrangement for the Reds’ right-back to join Madrid on a free transfer this summer. With Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool contract due to run out at season’s end and no new contract agreed upon as of yet, it’s a common belief that Los Blancos have set their sights on snatching Liverpool‘s vice-captain for La Liga action.
However, just last Sunday, Alexander-Arnold hit the back pages once more after nailing the decisive goal against Leicester City, edging Arne Slot’s squad ever closer to clinching the Premier League title. The jubilant scenes from Alexander-Arnold in front of the away fans fuelled speculation that perhaps the player rumored to be Spain-bound was having second thoughts about his potential switch to the Spanish giants.
Despite this display of loyalty, speaking to Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson clarified that an understanding has been in place since January, leaving no room for an about-face for either Alexander-Arnold or Liverpool. He relayed a cautionary note that any potential renege would not sit well with many.
“No, there’s no chance,” insisted the former England stalwart. “It’s kite-flying journalism, there’s absolutely no chance. We heard Mo Salah was going to sign, that came out, then we heard that Virgil van Dijk was going to sign, and that came out.
“With Trent, there’s not been a dicky bird. He’s gone, it’s done, and I told you that in January. He’d upset a lot of people in Madrid if that was the case, there have been handshakes and agreements in place.

“It would be one of the biggest U-turns I’ve ever seen. There’s no way Trent is coming back, that ship has sailed and everyone at Liverpool knows it.”
Noted transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has also remarked that despite Liverpool’s hopes that Alexander-Arnold could be persuaded to ink a new deal with them, the chances seem slim. Romano maintains that there have been no changes in the player’s status and voiced that notwithstanding any recent euphoric instances suggesting the contrary, Alexander-Arnold is poised to pen an agreement with Madrid as the summer approaches.
In another storyline for the Reds, securing a draw against Spurs this Sunday would see Liverpool clinch their 20th top-flight league title. This triumph would mark the club’s second Premier League crown in five years and add to Alexander-Arnold’s tally of nine significant trophies with Liverpool since his senior squad debut in 2016.
