No title. Not yet.
Bayern Munich stomped all over Mainz 05 in a breezy 3-0 win on Saturday as the German Rekordmeister edges ever closer to reclaiming the Bundesliga crown.
Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 win over FC Augsburg ensures the title race is not quite over yet, but with three games to go, Bayern would need to lose all three, while Leverkusen would have to win out. There’s still a chance, though it would require an epic collapse.
Let’s talk about the game and the Bayern performance. There were half-shaky moments to be sure, including in the second half when Mainz had their chance to turn a 2-0 deficit into a contest. But they never took them, thanks in part to confident saves from Jonas Urbig. And Bayern, while it could have scored more, did everything it needed to.
Fairly routine for Bayern but no title clinch. Chance to do it next week in Leipzig but will have to do it minus suspended Kane.
Thanks as ever if you watched on the world feed.
Even the big blooper of the day — Harry Kane taking himself out of the Leipzig contest needlessly by contesting a free kick with seconds to go in first half stoppage time — has only individual consequence.
I’ve got the Bavarians at a 9.0/10 in this one. Chime in with your scores below.
