Santiago Giménez faces a battle to regain his starting spot at AC Milan. The Mexican striker is competing with Luka Jovic and Tammy Abraham for a place in the Rossoneri’s attack.
After losing his starting spot in the last five games, alarms have been raised regarding the future of Santiago Giménez with AC Milan.
The ‘Bebote’ has gone from being the reference of the Rossoneri team, to being the third option for Sergio Conceicao; so they open the debate regarding whether his departure is possible next summer: however, for now, this is not in the plans.
It was Gazzetta dello Sport that revealed the panorama that is coming with AC Milan regarding its forward, since Luka Jovic has earned the confidence as a starter, and behind him come Tammy Abraham and Santi Giménez.
“In the board they are attentive to who will be their ‘9’ next season, since in this they have had four protagonists, so it is normal to wonder about what will happen in the future. Who should stay? Who shouldn’t? And above all who will be the owner of the position?”, they questioned.
Milan still believes in Giménez
But despite having a goal drought for more than two months, the Rossoneri do not think about getting rid of him based on what they paid to Feyenoord.
“Is Santiago Giménez not worthy of Serie A? In Milan they do not think so at all. The common thought of all the management is that he will have time to reset in summer and then demonstrate all his value from next season,” they said, so he is not at risk of leaving.
Adding that “he is a striker who has scored six goals in seven games in the present edition of the Champions League and who turned 24 years ago a little more than a week. He is young and has qualities to stand out also in Italy. And above all he will be able to solve the small physical problems that afflict him since his arrival in Milan: first a muscular problem inherited from his last stage in Rotterdam, then the strong blow to the side that he suffered against Fiorentina,” they confided.
AC Milan’s forward options
Given this, and with the possible participation of the Rossoneri in the next Europa League (if they win the Final of the Coppa Italia), Santiago Giménez would have his place secured the following season because “he is a key element of the attack that is coming.”
Regarding his competition, the AC Milan board analyzes keeping three forwards for the imminent saturated calendar that they would have next year.
“For now it is the Mexican plus two more. One of them should be Luka Jovic, the man of the moment in the Rossoneri after his double against Inter Milan. The Serbian has a singular agreement, since his contract can be renewed year after year until 2028 with an option in favor of the club. However, in view of his last convincing performances, Jovic would want at least a guaranteed two-year contract, so he has no option to sign for AC Milan.”
“The third “9” (not necessarily in order of preference) of today is Tammy Abraham, who arrived this summer from Roma on loan without a right to rescue. The Englishman would be delighted to stay at Milan, but an agreement would have to be reached with the ‘Wolf’, who for their part would be delighted to keep Saelemaekers, owned by the Rossoneri,” they concluded.
