Exclusive: Liverpool and Chelsea target now available for £40m after drop in asking price

3 Min Read

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is expected to leave Selhurst Park this summer with just one-year left on his contract, TBR Football can reveal.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United are among the clubs circling for Guehi’s signature this summer, a defender who’s taken his reputation one step further after shining for England.

Guehi joined Palace from Chelsea back in 2021 after impressing for Swansea City during a loan to the Championship.

The 24-year-old has since made 130 appearances in the Premier League, earning the armband in South London in the process.

Chelsea are interested in re-signing Guehi as a result, however, they are far from the only team in the running.

Crystal Palace expect Marc Guehi to leave this summer

That being said, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Palace chairman Steve Parish will sell Guehi for a bargain fee, even with just one-year left on his deal.

Palace expect to recoup £40m minimum for their captain this summer if not more.

Although, it should be noted that Palace rejected a £70m bid from Tottenham Hotspur for Guehi in January, one that arrived too late in the window to be considered.

Therefore, Palace will naturally have to drop their price tag in the summer given that Guehi could in theory leave for nothing in 2026 when his deal expires.

In terms of interest abroad, Bayern Munich and Juventus are both interested in Guehi.

However, it’s arguably Newcastle in England who are pushing the hardest to bring the England international to St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe is a huge fan of Guehi and Newcastle are still doing a lot of work on the signing.

Guehi has been open to a move to Tyneside in the past even without Champions League football, which Howe’s side are hopeful of securing this term.

As mentioned, Chelsea also remain active in the race for Guehi — another side hoping to be in Europe’s top competition next season.

And in terms of those already qualified for the Champions League, Liverpool are also interested in Guehi.

Although, Liverpool are in prime position to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth too, who might still transpire as their priority.

It’s recently been reported that Nottingham Forest are interested in Guehi themselves, another side competing at the top of the Premier League table.

However, Guehi’s camp have described those links as ‘nonsense’.
