Quality of performance is relative to the quality of your opposition.

Following its 3-0 victory over Mainz 05, Bayern Munich edges ever closer to lifting the Bundesliga title, with the visitors doing little to stop Bayern’s march to glory. Despite the defeat, Mainz coach Bo Henriksen remains positive about aspects of Mainz’s performance against the league leaders.

After the match, Henrikson spoke about his side’s performance (captured via FCBayern.com), saying, “Of course we’re disappointed [with the result], but we turned in a good display. We didn’t have to lose 3-0 even though Bayern were better. Bayern were very efficient today. If so, any team will lose here. I’m very proud of the performance, it isn’t easy to play here. Bayern were very strong, but we tried everything.”

Mainz attacker Paul Nebel expressed a similar sentiment but noted that his team has areas to improve, explaining that, “Sometimes you’re in [a difficult] period in football, then it’s about working your way out of it together. We did a lot of things well, but there’s also a lot we must improve.”

Mainz has managed a truly impressive campaign thus far, sitting seventh in the table and only one point off European places. Will Mainz be able to take over a resurgent Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga standings?
