Liverpool icon Mohamed Salah broke yet another Premier League record as the Reds smashed Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 to win the title with four games to spare.

Arne Slot‘s men knew that just one point would suffice for glory on Sunday afternoon at Anfield, but their title party was briefly at risk of being put on hold yet again.

Spurs stunned Anfield into silence when Dominic Solanke headed home a James Maddison corner, but Liverpool wasted no time in turning the tide as Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo struck before the break.

Just to erase any shred of doubt about Liverpool’s status as Premier League champions, Salah got in on the act himself in the second half, cutting inside and firing in a low effort at Guglielmo Vicario‘s near post.

As well as ending a four-game drought in the competition, Salah broke the record for the most amount of goals scored by a foreign player in the Premier League, registering his 185th effort on Sunday evening.

Prior to Sunday’s contest, Salah and Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero were level on 184 efforts in the competition, but the Egypt international has now eclipsed his Argentine foe.

As a result, Salah is also now the outright fifth-highest Premier League scorer in history, only trailing four Englishmen in Andy Cole (187), Wayne Rooney (208), Harry Kane (213) and Alan Shearer (260).

Furthermore, the 32-year-old now boasts 46 goal contributions for the Premier League season, just one shy of the all-time record of 47, jointly set by Cole and Shearer during 42-game seasons in the 1990s.

Salah may have jokingly tried to claim Liverpool’s fifth goal on the afternoon too, but Spurs left-back Destiny Udogie inadvertently poked the ball into his own net before the Reds winger could get there.

Nevertheless, there was no wiping off the beaming smile on Salah’s face at full time, and the former Chelsea and Roma man exclaimed that he appeared to be getting even better under his current manager.

Asked whether Slot had improved his game even more this term, Salah told Sky Sports News: “You see the numbers, it seems so! Now I don’t have to defend much.

“He was very honest. He’s Dutch, the Dutch are quite tough, but he made out lives easier because he asked immediately what he wanted you to do, which is what we did.

“The tactics are quite different [to Jurgen Klopp]. But I told him ‘as long as you rest me defensively, I will provide offensively’ – so I’m glad I did. It was the manager’s idea of course, but he listens a lot.”

Salah remains on course for a Golden Boot and Playmaker Award double, now sitting on a staggering 28 goals and 18 assists for the Premier League campaign, and he has four more games to register the two contributions he needs for the all-time record.

Liverpool return to action away to Chelsea on May 4, before concluding a triumphant Premier League campaign with final fixtures against Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace.
