Kane could miss out on the Bundesliga celebrations…but he is still one of many that got the Bavarians here.
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is not too worried about Harry Kane.
The Bayern striker managed to earn a yellow card in the first half of Bayern’s 3-0 win over Mainz on Saturday, which leaves him suspended on yellow card accumulation for next week’s match at RB Leipzig — which is when Bayern may confirm their status as this year’s Bundesliga champions.
“It’s not ideal, but we play 34 games in the season,” Kompany declared after the match in comments captured via @iMiaSanMia. “Guys like [Jamal] Musiala, [Alphonso] Davies, [Dayot] Upamecano, [Hiroki] Itō who are not there, also have to celebrate the title when it’s won. It doesn’t make a big difference for Harry and doesn’t change anything on what he did this season.”
Kane has 24 goals and eight assists in 28 Bundesliga matches this season (26 starts), figures that are slightly down from last year. But it is the team result that will matter more — both for Kane and for Bayern.
His absence could be an opportunity, too. FC Bayern campus striker Jonah Kusi-Asare subbed on for Kane for his senior team debut in the closing minutes against Mainz — and the 17-year-old could be poised for some more minutes soon.
