Although they experienced a less than ideal start against Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool’s quality shone through and Arne Slot’s side were crowned Premier League champions.

It took Slot 34 games to win the league in his first season at Liverpool — a remarkable achievement especially considering that he barely altered Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

First and foremost, the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will deservedly spring to mind when remembering Liverpool’s title-win.

However, there are also so many lesser-mentioned names to celebrate and it has to be said that Alexis Mac Allister has stepped up time and time again for Liverpool in their run-in.

Ryan Gravenberch has been a revelation at the base of Slot’s midfield, but it’s been his £35m Argentinian partner who’s been rocketing in priceless strikes.

That being said, Jamie Redknapp paid homage to Mac Allister’s excellence in the first half of Liverpool’s win against Tottenham to clinch the title at Anfield.

Redknapp was speaking at half-time of Sky Sports’ coverage and hailed the ‘energy’ that the midfielder was playing with — the player he thought inspired Liverpool’s comeback.

Analysing Mac Allister’s goal, Redknapp said: “This is fantastic, Mac Allister has been different class in this first half, the amount of tackles he’s won, the energy — he’s the player who almost grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck when things were going against them.

“Touch with his right foot onto his left foot and he just hits that so hard, it’s a brilliant strike and we’ve seen him do this time and time again.

“It’s not an easy one, watch Cody Gakpo wants it — oh my goodness, well done, puts his hands on his head there.

“That was so good and just too strong, wow, what a strike, unstoppable. Look at the goalkeeper as well.”

As mentioned, there might have been a few nerves when Tottenham went 1-0 up at Anfield courtesy of Dominic Solanke’s excellent header.

However, Liverpool quickly showed their class and blew Spurs away in truth — a side who have been seriously poor under Ange Postecoglou this season.

That being said, Slot appeared to allow himself to finally celebrate somewhat when Liverpool scored their third goal against Spurs.

Slot embraced a number of his backroom staff on the touchline and it felt like the first sign that the Dutchman was willing to accept that it was job done.

A remarkable season for Liverpool, and Mac Allister’s role shouldn’t be understated.
