Viktor Gyokeres has generated numerous headlines since being linked with a move to Arsenal as he could finally emerge as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s long-term replacement as a sure-fire goalscorer up front.
Gyokeres earned plaudits against Boavista as he scored four goals in a single game and in the process, the Swedish marksman bagged his seventh hat-trick of the season — which sums up why he is one of Europe’s most feared strikers.
Andrea Berta would like to sign Gyokeres as he believes the Sporting CP frontman would have an immediate impact in an Arsenal shirt.
However, the former Atletico Madrid sporting director does not just have his sights set on signing Viktor Gyokeres.
Victor Osimhen has impressed Andrea Berta’s scouts alongside the likes of Hugo Ekitike and Jonathan David.
Arsenal should sign Victor Osimhen instead of Viktor Gyokeres
But Victor Osimhen in particular would potentially prove to a much better addition to this Arsenal side than Gyokeres for a multitude of reasons.
First and foremost, Osimhen is far more proven at the highest level than Gyokeres — having performed in Ligue 1 for Lille, emerged as a truly elite goalscorer at Napoli where he spearheaded their Ligue 1 triumph while also having led the line for Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations.
While Gyokeres is high up on Arsenal’s shortlist, he has only really made waves at Sporting CP in Liga Portugal which is an inferior division to both Ligue 1 and Serie A and before that, he burst into life in the Championship for Coventry City.
Osimhen is a world-class striker and when comparing his game to that of Gyokeres’ as well, Arsenal would be aided by the former’s presence much more.
Unlike the former Coventry hero, who plays in a league which suits him to a tee due to how much space he is afforded to score goals on the break, the Nigerian international’s time in Serie A has given him the experience of playing against low blocks.
One of Arsenal’s biggest drawbacks this season has been against deep blocks, which Osimhen could help counter due to his superior experience than that of Gyokeres and in the Premier League, teams give the Gunners little to no room to exploit.
Additionally, the former VfL Wolfsburg number nine is far better at harrying defenders as he expertly runs the channels, holding up the ball and still being a threat in transition due to his powerful running — aspects that should make Andrea Berta’s preference towards his signature a no-brainer.
Victor Osimhen’s stance on Premier League transfer
Napoli are ready to sell Osimhen and they would like one of his suitors to pay his £64 million release clause as quickly as possible.
Osimhen is open to joining Manchester United and Chelsea without the promise of Champions League football and if Arsenal come calling, there is no reason to believe that they cannot sign him if they ditch their pursuit for Gyokeres.
Considering Manchester United are unwilling to sign Osimhen now, the Gunners’ only competitors for his signature could be Chelsea and logically, most players would prefer a move to the Emirates Stadium instead of Stamford Bridge currently.
