Ruben Amorim‘s side are heading towards the club’s worst-ever Premier League finish but could earn a piece of silverware via the Europa League.

La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao are the opponents over second two legs for Man United, who are desperate to climb back into the Champions League.

The first clash of the tie is set for Spain on Thursday night, a week before the Red Devils host for the second leg at the Theatre of Dreams.

Man United believe Gyokeres is a ‘done deal’

According to Football Insider, Manchester United have made significant strides ahead of rivals to secure the signature of Sporting Lisbon star Gyokeres.

The report claims that the Red Devils are confident that a move for the Swedish sensation is essentially a ‘done deal’, leaving other potential suitors in their dust.

It is understood that fellow Premier League giants Arsenal have also been in the hunt for Gyokeres, however United have supposedly taken a major lead in the race.

Despite European football not being a guarantee at Old Trafford next term, it is believed that the 26-year-old has his heart set on a switch to the red side of Manchester.

Amorim – who enjoyed a successful spell at Sporting alongside Gyokeres – is said to be a major factor in the striker’s decision-making process.

How is Gyokeres getting on in Portugal?

After bagging a staggering 43 goals across 50 competitive appearances for Sporting during his maiden campaign, Gyokeres made a seamless step up from Coventry City in the Championship.

The 26-year-old has continued to rise through the goalscoring ranks during the 2024-25 season, bagging a stunning 52 goals in 48 games across all competitions.

Needless to say, Man United would be bringing one of Europe’s elite marksmen to the club if they were able to fully agree a deal with the Portuguese giants.
