The summer transfer window is swiftly approaching, and one player in particular is making the most headlines.
Indeed, Alexander Isak has been at the centre of a lot of transfer speculation as a number of top clubs want to sign the Newcastle star.
Liverpool are keen on Isak, while Arsenal really want to sign the striker too.
Speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton has been discussing Isak’s future with a caller who was pondering a potential move to Anfield for the Newcastle star.
Sutton discussed this potential move, and he says he can see Isak heading to Merseyside rather than joining Arsenal, claiming that the pull of signing for the Premier League champions may well help Liverpool get this deal done.
Alexander Isak would rather join Liverpool than Arsenal
Sutton spoke with a caller about where Isak will end up.
The pundit reckons that Isak may prefer a move to Liverpool rather than Arsenal, claiming that any player would rather join a team that has just won the Premier League.
Arsenal want to sign Isak, while Liverpool have been strongly linked with the forward too.
“And then you can have Isak up front or the guy from Frankfurt. Nunez will go. There’s debate over Diaz going this time,” The caller said.
“We’ve got the money. I know people are saying we haven’t spent the last couple of years. I think there’s a massive rebuild.”
“That’s a great point because I think he was linked with a move to Arsenal. But I mean, you’d rather go to a Premier League winner, wouldn’t you?” Sutton said.
Why Arsenal can’t be discounted in Alexander Isak race
Sutton is spot on, Isak may well be more tempted to join Liverpool due to their status as Premier League champions.
However, there’s an argument to make that Arsenal could still end up being the more alluring destination.
Indeed, the Gunners could go one better than winning the Premier League by winning the Champions League.
Becoming the champions of Europe holds an incredible amount of prestige, and that would make the Emirates a more appealing destination than Anfield.
Of course, in order to do that, Arsenal must first get past PSG.
Arsenal have been tipped to beat PSG and reach the Champions League final, and after the Gunners thrashed Real Madrid over two legs, it’s certainly hard to back against the north London club in this competition.
Isak has been valued at £120m, and he could be set for a blockbuster move this summer.
