Bayern Munich is lasered in on one major move this summer…will it happen?
No Plan B for Bayern this summer (Sport Bild’s Christian Falk via @iMiaSanMia)
As was feared, Bayern Munich’s plans for the summer truly are Florian Wirtz or bust:
There remains no “Plan B” should Bayern not sign Florian Wirtz this summer. They are absolutely focused on him. Normally, because of the club’s current financial situation, they wouldn’t plan for a major signing this summer. But things are different because Florian Wirtz is on the market. Also, if he signs a new contract at Leverkusen (which is unlikely) with a release clause for 2026, that would also be fine for Bayern. The main thing for Bayern is to not lose Wirtz to another league.
What does that mean? On the positive side, it appears that Bayern Munich is talking itself into not making any panic buys (good!), but it could also result in the team opting to run it back with its current group (not good enough!).
Wirtz is clearly the player that Bayern Munich not just desires, but covets. Wirtz is the one who forcibly enact change within the club because pairing him with Jamal Musiala would require something…different from Vincent Kompany.
At this point, fans are either staunchly pro-Wirtz or fiercely anti-Wirtz…where do you stand?
Vardy to…Wrexham? (ESPN)
Jamie Vardy has had quite the career arc. The Leicester City legend could move on this summer and head to…Wrexham:
Wrexham could make a move to sign former England international Jamie Vardy on a free transfer, according to talkSPORT. The Leicester City striker, 38, won the Premier League title and the FA Cup during his 13 years with the Foxes. Leicester have already been relegated to the Championship for next season, where they could face Wrexham if the Welsh club secure a third consecutive promotion this term. When announcing his exit from Leicester after scoring 198 goals in 495 appearances, Vardy confirmed that he plans to continue his playing career.

NUFC serious about Min-jae pursuit? (The Hard Tackle)
Newcastle United could be a legitimate contender for Bayern Munich center-back Kim Min-jae:
According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle United are keen on reinforcing their backline ahead of next season and they have their eyes set on Kim Min-jae. The Bayern Munich superstar could be on the move this summer and the Magpies will look to make the most out of the opportunity.
Kim made a name for himself at Fenerbahce before joining Napoli in the summer of 2022. In his only season in Italy, he was named Serie A Defender of the Year, playing a key role in helping the Naples-based club win their first league title in over three decades.
Reports suggest the 28-year-old could push for a move away from Bayern, and if he does, the German club are unlikely to stand in his way, although they would be reluctant to lose one of the best defenders in Europe.
Newcastle have emerged as a potential destination for the South Korean centre-back. The Magpies are third in the Premier League and they are set to secure a Champions League football. If they do make a return to the European competition, Eddie Howe will be keen on adding more quality to their squad.
It is starting to feel like Min-jae could be shopped this summer to see what might be out there for him, but that does not mean he will actually move on. Bayern Munich should be thinking about a three-man rotation at center-back, while also keeping Eric Dier as a reserve to provide maximum coverage.
Regardless of what actually happens, head coach Vincent Kompany should embrace rotation and not run his defenders into the ground like he did this season. The backline will have flexibility with players like Josip Stanišić and Hiroki Itō as part of the group.
De Bruyne has offer from Chicago, but could have other options (ESPN)
Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne will leave the club this summer and already has an offer from the Chicago Fire in MLS:
Chicago Fire’s offer for Manchester City attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to join them when his contract expires is still on the table, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. However, the journalist states that Serie A Como haven’t made contact with the 33-year-old, Chelsea aren’t in active talks and there is no confirmation on negotiations with Inter Miami.

Spurs prepping for Tel talks with Bayern (Football Insider)
Tottenham Hotspur might be wavering on its desire to keep Bayern Munich loanee Mathys Tel:
Tottenham will hold talks with Bayern Munich before making a decision about Mathys Tel’s future, according to the club’s former scout. Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout for Man United and Blackburn and remains very well-connected at his former clubs, exclusively told Football Insider that it is currently unlikely that the 20-year-old will remain at Spurs.
However, if they can renegotiate a more reasonable price tag, there is still a possibility that he will make the permanent move to North London. This comes after Football Insider revealed Tottenham will not pay Tel’s £45million buy clause, although they are keen to keep him at the club.
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider in February that Tottenham will pay £8.3million for Tel even if they opt out of paying his full buy-out fee. Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted Spurs may be forced to move on from the Frenchman if they cannot negotiate a deal.
“From what I hear, I think he’ll be going back to Bayern,” he told Football Insider. “He’s not quite lived up to expectations since he’s been there, and I think we’re seeing some of the reasons why Bayern were keen to let him go. I don’t doubt in an ideal world they’d want to keep him, but he hasn’t shown enough to warrant that price tag of almost £50million.
“It’s a deal that, to put it simply, is not going to happen at that price. I expect they’ll speak to Bayern Munich, and if there’s a possibility to bring that price down, then they may see what they can do. As much as he hasn’t lived up to the billing, he’s still a talented player. If Tottenham can get into the Champions League, I’m sure he’ll be more likely to want to stick around. At the moment though, with their place in the league and the money involved, it’s unlikely.”
