It has been a month since Andre Berta was named the new Sporting Director at Arsenal, and although the Italian has been spotted at a number of matches, he is yet to make any public pronouncements, unlike his predecessor Edu who would often give media interviews.
In part this may be a question of style – he is a famously private person, and in part due ti the fact that he is still learning the language.
Although he is reported to be busy behind the scenes, making contact with agents of transfer targets and also discussing key player contract renewals, there is also a sense that he could do with a quick win, something tangible to convince the club’s supporters that the Board made the right choice in appointing him.
And, whilst the Champions League has offered a major solace this season, the sight of Liverpool fans celebrating the Premier League titles, has provided reminders of what might have been.
Berta and the Gunners need to show they are heading in the right direction for next season.
