Liverpool are the Premier League champions, and the scary part is, the Arne Slot era is only just getting started.
Indeed, Arne Slot has won the Premier League in his first season at Anfield, and, frighteningly, he managed to do so without doing much transfer business at all.
Fedrico Chiesa was Slot’s only signing in the summer, and Chiesa has barely even played for Liverpool this season.
Liverpool could be set for a big summer of spending, and they have been linked to some intriguing potential signings.
Milos Kerkez has been linked to Liverpool at left-back, while Alexander Isak is a Liverpool target in the attack.
Speaking on his podcast, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Alexander Isak’s potential transfer plans this summer, and the pundit is desperate for the Newcastle ace to stay away from Anfield.
Rio Ferdinand doesn’t want Alexander Isak to join Liverpool
Ferdinand spoke about Isak and where he should go this summer.
The pundit urged the £60m striker to sign for Real Madrid, claiming that he really doesn’t want to see Isak join Liverpool.
Indeed, Ferdinand says he really doesn’t want to see Liverpool dominate the Premier League, and he believes Isak could bring that to Anfield.
“I think he lives in that ilk, he has the impact like that if he goes to Liverpool.”
“I think he goes there though Rio I’m looking at it, where else is he going to go?” His co-host said.
“I think he could go to Madrid or something like that, I think he should go to Madrid, he can’t go to Liverpool, he can’t go to Liverpool. I don’t want to see this type of dominance, Jesus,” Ferdinand said.
Signings made by Premier League sides who retained the title
Winning the Premier League is an incredible achievement, but winning it twice in a row is something truly special.
Indeed, only a handful of teams over the years have managed to retain their title, and, often, those teams do make big signings between their consecutive title wins.
Teams who retained the Premier League title | Notable signings between title wins |
Manchester United 1992/93 & 1993/94 | Roy Keane |
Manchester United 1995/96 & 1996/97 | Teddy Sheringham, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ronny Johnsen |
Manchester United 1998/99, 1999/00 & 2000/2001 | Dwight Yorke, Jaap Stam, Mikael Silvestre, Fabien Barthez |
Chelsea 2004/05 & 2005/06 | Michael Essien, Shaun Wright-Phillips |
Manchester United 2006/07, 2007/08 & 2008/09 | Carlos Tevez, Dimitar Berbatov, Nani, Owen Hargreaves, Anderson |
Manchester City 2017/18 & 2018/19 | Riyad Mahrez |
Manchester City 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23 & 2023/24 | Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish, Julian Alvarez, Manuel Akanji, Jeremy Doku, Josko Gvardiol, Matheus Nunes |
As you can see, the most successful teams in Premier League history don’t rest on their laurels, they improve from positions of strength, and that’s what Liverpool need to do this summer.
Isak would be the type of statement signing that shows Liverpool are going to come for every major honour next season, and, that’s why Ferdinand is so frightened of Isak potentially heading to Anfield.
Liverpool believe Isak is an attainable target, but, whether or not this deal comes to fruition remains to be seen.
