Liverpool finally has confirmation of something it has craved for a long time: the Reds are champions of England.
For weeks, if not months, fans have known the campaign was destined to end in silverware, but getting top spot guaranteed is, at the very least, a weight of everyone’s mind. The biggest aim and objective is complete, but what now?
Getting the title race wrapped up invariably changes the focus now for the players, head coach and decision makers such as Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards. So, what’s now for Liverpool after Sunday’s celebratory scenes?
Alexander-Arnold future
The focus of the season has essentially been on two key topics: Liverpool’s search for trophies and the contract dramas. The first is now concluded and the second is nearly complete. After Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk committed their futures to the club, it’s just the uncertainty that surrounds Trent Alexander-Arnold which remains.
A move to Real Madrid is expected – that he didn’t conduct post-match interviews on Sunday is another indication his future lies away from Merseyside – but with the league secured, Alexander-Arnold’s future will dominate the focus and media landscape over the coming weeks. Expect plenty more reports and rumors to leak out now. But as the campaign continues, it feels increasingly possible that no announcement will be made before the final day of the season against Crystal Palace. Should it get to that stage, Alexander-Arnold’s reception at Anfield and on the bus parade the following day will be intriguing.
Remaining fixtures
This may seem pretty obvious, but Liverpool still has four games remaining this season. That’s very much what comes next, starting with the trip to Chelsea on Sunday, followed by Arsenal’s expected guard of honor at Anfield the following week. The season ends with Brighton & Hove Albion (away) and then Palace at Anfield.
There is technically nothing riding on those four matches, but Arne Slot will want to finish the campaign strongly, particularly as the Reds head into what is expected to be another busy summer transfer window. There could also be a chance to experiment with the team and tactics – does Conor Bradley get a run out, Harvey Elliott given a chance to shine or even a first league start for Federico Chiesa? There are also plenty of minor achievements still on offer to the team and individuals

Records
The Reds will be hunting down plenty of records and landmarks in the weeks to come. A 90+ campaign is still possible, for instance, something which has only been achieved 13 times before in a 38-game season. Slot’s side could even finish on 94 points, a tally that only five teams in the division’s history have bettered.
As for individual records, Salah is hunting down a record-breaking campaign for assists and goal involvements. He needs two more goals or assists to break the latter, while three more assists would beat the 20 registered by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry. Salah should also win a record-equalling fourth Golden Boot from this position.
Another less publicized landmark is up for grabs for Van Dijk. Should he continue his record of playing every minute this term, he will become the first player in Premier League history to play every minute of two separate title-winning seasons.

Transfer plans
Certainly the issue fans are most interested in: who is set to come and go from Anfield? Van Dijk has now twice said he expects a “big summer”, while Slot has acknowledged there will be additions made. There has been a growing sense this season that, despite the team’s success, there are several areas that must be addressed in this squad. After a year observing, Slot will have no doubt where those deficiencies lie, while Hughes and Edwards are well settled into their respective positions.
Rivals’ response
This may be out of Liverpool’s hands, but it will be fascinating to see how the Reds’ rivals respond to the huge gap that has emerged at the top of the table. Primarily, that concerns the transfer activity of Arsenal and Manchester City – it’s difficult to imagine anyone else challenging Liverpool’s supremacy next term. Both clubs are expected to make major additions this summer, particularly given Liverpool plans to strengthen.
