Liverpool have been urged to sign a new striker this summer to bolster their title defence.
The Reds secured a 20th league title on Sunday by beating Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s side have clinched top spot in the Premier League with four matches remaining.
However, former defender Mark Lawrenson believes new additions are needed in the summer if they are to repeat the feat next term.
Lawrenson won five league titles and the European Cup during his time at Anfield.
The 67-year-old is convinced Darwin Nunez is not the man to lead the line for Liverpool.
He has suggested Slot replaces the Uruguayan forward ahead of his first Premier League title defence.
Asked if his old side need an ‘out-and-out number nine’, Lawrenson told Breakfast: “Yeah, absolutely.
“You mentioned Nunez, he stretches his defences, but as you know, he just doesn’t score, which for a striker is not good.
“(Diogo) Jota, really good finisher, injury prone. They need an out-and-out striker who’s quick, but then doesn’t everybody.”
Mohamed Salah is Liverpool’s top scorer in the league this season with 28 goals from the right-hand side.
Across the rest of the squad, no other player has scored more than 12 in the Premier League.
As for Nunez and Diogo Jota, the Reds’ two recognised strikers, they have a combined 11 league goals between them.
The former has not found the net since March, whilst his last three league appearances have all been off the bench.
Meanwhile, Jota continues to struggle with muscle problems, which caused a pair of spells on the sidelines between October and January.
Since signing from Wolves in 2020, the Portuguese has missed a total of 99 matches for club and country through injury.
Lawrenson is confident Liverpool will be able to recruit well during the summer thanks to their status as champion.
He added: “The great thing for them as well is, with them being champions, when you come to try and make a deal with people, certainly with the players.
“Obviously the money’s fine because everyone’s on massive money at the moment, but, they’ll be selling Liverpool, they’ll be selling Anfield, won’t they?
“As in, come and play here, play with all these players who are unbelievable.
“So, I think they might end up buying about five players, which sounds a bit crazy when they’ve just won the league. That’s what it’ll need.”
Slot only made two signings during his maiden season in England, with Federico Chiesa the only addition to the squad.
Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was instead loaned back to Valencia and will officially link up with his new club this summer.
As for departures, Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer after agreeing terms on a five-year deal.
Salah and Virgil van Dijk will stay at Anfield, though, after penning new two-year contract extensions in recent weeks.
Slot already has his eye on plenty of summer transfers, including a new forward.
talkSPORT understands that Alexander Isak is a target, while Bournemouth defenders Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez are wanted.
