In the summer, Manchester City have the small task of replacing Kevin De Bruyne who will leave after winning six Premier League titles with the club.
De Bruyne has been the face of Pep Guardiola’s Man City and his departure at 33-years-old will signal a new era for the club.
In the past, many would automatically expect Phil Foden to fill the void, however, the England international has experienced an indifferent season.
And whilst the likes of James McAtee are on the cusp of a first-team breakthrough, there’s clearly room for a new face to arrive at the Etihad.
And by all accounts, City would love to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen — one of Europe’s most sought after talents.
Bayern Munich nearing verbal agreement with Florian Wirtz
City have been attempting to convince Wirtz and his camp to choose City of late, promising that he could be the club’s De Bruyne heir.
However, according to journalist Santi Aouna, Wirtz is now closing in on a move to prospective Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

It’s a familiar path for the top German players outside of Bavaria to eventually switch their Bundesliga side for Bayern, and it would seem as if Vincent Kompany’s team are on the cusp of a monumentally important signing.
Sharing his info on X, Aouna said: “Verbal agreement almost reached between Bayern Munich and Florian Wirtz camp.
“No agreement found yet between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich. Manchester City still want the player.”
So whilst not all hope is lost for City right now, it is looking very likely that Wirtz will soon be linking up with Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena.
Hugo Viana needs to sign City’s next Kevin De Bruyne
Arsenal and Liverpool have shown interest in Wirtz recently but it does now appear as if it’s something of a shoot-out between City and Bayern.
Of course, as per Aouna’s update, it would appear that Bayern are making better progress than City.
Hugo Viana arrives as City’s new sporting director this summer and it would be a huge coup if he could mark his era with the signing of Wirtz.
However, following City’s talks with Jamal Musiala they will have realised just how much pull Bayern have when it comes to signing the best young German talents.
Bayern have been wanting to partner Wirtz and Musiala for some time and perhaps they will now get their wish.
