Manager Tottenham in talks with is a big fan of Harry Kane and Mauricio Pochettino, seems to admire Spurs

It could be tough for Tottenham to hire a new manager this summer.

Both Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur could leave Spurs – two key players – while a number of managers have historically struggled to succeed under Daniel Levy over the last 24 years, which could put some off the job.

Ange Postecoglou looks set to leave regardless of what happens in the UEFA Europa League, although the challenge for ENIC will be to find someone both better than the Australian, and someone passionate about managing Tottenham.

In regards to the latter point, Tottenham could be barking up the right tree with Niko Kovac.

What Niko Kovac has previously said about Spurs

BILD in Germany recently claimed that Tottenham have approached Kovac to check whether he would be keen on replacing Postecoglou.

The Borussia Dortmund boss still has just over 12 months left on his contract at the Signal Iduna Park, but has previously spoken quite fondly of Spurs, adding an interesting dimension to this rumour.

Kovac has hailed Harry Kane and Mauricio Pochettino in the past while the pair were shining at Tottenham, saying: “Tottenham are now able to compete with the very big teams. They have continuity. (Pochettino) was given time and he has done a great job – that is an example for others.”

“His (Kane) quality in the Premier League and for England speaks for itself. He’s sensational. He’s good at holding up and good with his head. There’s nothing he cannot do. He’s a very strong striker.”

Discussing Tottenham in general, Kovac added back in 2019: “It is a very, very positive development. In 2016 I was here and they were in the old stadium, I was here to watch Tottenham against Swansea, the flair was different, the stadium was smaller, but the atmosphere was strong.

“You can see what it means when you have a good coach, a good manager.”

You may recall Kovac actually inflicted a 7-2 defeat on Spurs in the UEFA Champions League while in charge of Bayern Munich, with Serge Gnabry scoring four goals.

Other options for Tottenham

Kovac is said to be happy at Borussia Dortmund – so Spurs might find it tough to lure him to N17.

However, there are other candidates under consideration.

TBR Football understand Tottenham have approached Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner – while Spurs also like Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth.

Scott Parker has also been linked to Tottenham – along with Marco Silva and Thomas Frank.

Therefore, Kovac is not the only name on the list by any means, as Tottenham prepare to move on from Postecoglou.
