Liverpool and Arsenal have been locked in a battle this season as both sides have duked it out for the right to be called Premier League champions.
Liverpool have won the title race, securing their status as champions with Sunday’s win over Tottenham Hotspur.
However, away from the pitch, Arsenal and Liverpool have more battles to face.
Indeed, the Gunners and the Reds look set for a summer of locking horns in the transfer market.
Arsenal and Liverpool both want Alexander Isak, while Martin Zubimendi looks set for Arsenal after almost joining Liverpool last summer.
Now, speaking on All Out Football, John Cross has been discussing another transfer battle that may be on the horizon between Arsenal and Liverpool.
Liverpool in the mix for Nico Williams
Cross was speaking about where Athletic Club’s Nico Williams could end up next summer.
Williams is supposed to sign for Arsenal according to some, but Cross now says that Liverpool will be in the mix for Williams next summer as they look to revamp their attack.
“That these clubs, the elite in Europe are looking at him. If you had to pick one, where do you think he might be the best fit?” Cross was asked.
Yeah, I mean, it’s a really, really difficult one. My feeling would be that basically, if I had to really go for one and just sort of kind of almost balance them out, basically, I think Liverpool will undoubtedly do business in the summer to kind of strengthen their strike force, particularly if they kind of get a take of four, Nunez at a good price, but where does that come? So I think they’re in the mix,” Cross said.
Arsenal vs Liverpool past transfer battles
Liverpool and Arsenal could be set to go head to head over a number of transfers this summer, and we’ve seen this before on a number of occasions.
Indeed, as two of England’s biggest clubs, Liverpool and Arsenal are often fishing in the same sorts of ponds when looking at potential signings.
Liverpool wanted Sol Campbell before he joined Arsenal all those years ago, while Mamadou Sakho almost joined Arsenal instead of Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Theo Walcott admitted he nearly joined Liverpool at one point to Sky Sports.
Arsenal famously also bid £40,000,001 for Luis Suarez back in 2013, prompting fury from those in and around Anfield.
Liverpool and Arsenal are set for a number of transfer battles this summer, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in each of these races.
