Tottenham Hotspur are supposedly ‘well-placed’ to strike a summer deal for talented 18-year-old Feyenoord product Zepiqueno Redmond, regardless of Ange Postecoglou‘s future.
There is a growing feeling that Postecoglou will be relieved of his duties at the end of the season, as the Australian could oversee Spurs’ worst-ever Premier League campaign in terms of their position in the table.
The Lilywhites lie 16th in the rankings after the weekend’s 5-1 humiliation at the hands of Liverpool, who came from a goal down to clinch the title after Dominic Solanke headed home the opening goal.
However, Postecoglou could salvage Spurs’ season with Europa League success, as Tottenham face Bodo/Glimt in Thursday’s semi-final first leg, and Solanke has thrived up top in Europe’s secondary competition.
The former Liverpool man boasts seven goal contributions from 10 appearances in this season’s tournament, including the winning penalty in Spurs’ 1-0 quarter-final second-leg success over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Solanke’s backup Richarlison has struggled for both form and fitness, though, while it remains to be seen if Alejo Veliz will be given a first-team shot next term when he returns from his Espanyol loan.
Tottenham ‘well-placed’ to agree Redmond deal
Should Richarlison depart and Veliz also be loaned out again, Tottenham will likely look for additions in the forward line, and Football Insider claims that the signs are promising when it comes to a deal for Redmond.
The 18-year-old has spent the last six seasons rising through the youth ranks at Feyenoord and is still technically on the books with their Under-21 side, but he is starting to make a name for himself in the first team.
Redmond boasts two goals from his first nine senior appearances for the Rotterdam giants, both of which came in the KNVB Beker against MVV Maastricht, where his brace propelled Feyenoord to a 2-1 win.
The 2006-born starlet was also trusted from the first whistle in the second leg of Feyenoord’s Champions League playoff tie with AC Milan, in addition to making two Eredivisie starts in 2024-25.
However, Redmond’s contract at De Kuip is due to expire at the end of the season, and the report claims that he is therefore seen as a ‘bargain signing’ for Tottenham ahead of the summer window.
Tottenham battling possible Postecoglou replacement for Redmond?
The Lilywhites are not the only team to have been alerted to a potential deal for the teenager, though, as Bournemouth are also rumoured to have taken a liking to Redmond in recent months.
Cherries manager Andoni Iraola is coincidentally one of the names to have been linked with a move to Tottenham in the event that Postecoglou is sacked, but Bournemouth are expected to resist interest in their highly-rated boss.
As well as the two Premier League clubs, multiple sides in the Bundesliga are reportedly monitoring Redmond’s situation, and the pathway to the first team is likely to be crucial when deciding his next career move.
While the 18-year-old is primarily a centre-forward, he is also comfortable on the left and right wing and has already made seven appearances for the Netherlands’ Under-19 side, scoring twice.
