Alan Smith thought £67m player would sign for Man Utd but now he thinks he could sign for Arsenal instead

Arsenal have work to do in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have fallen short in the title race again this season, and after their 1-0 loss against PSG on Tuesday evening, their Champions League dream is also hanging by a thread.

Arsenal need to sign a few new players this summer, and they already have a few targets lined up.

Martin Zubimendi is expected to join Arsenal this summer, while Nico Williams has been strongly linked to Arsenal too.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are set to sign a striker in this upcoming transfer window, and Viktor Gyokeres is on Arsenal’s radar.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Alan Smith has been discussing Gyokeres’ situation, and the pundit says that he could now see the striker ending up at Arsenal, despite the fact he initially thought he’d be headed to Manchester United.

Alan Smith thinks Viktor Gyokeres could join Arsenal

Smith spoke about which striker Arsenal could sign this summer.

The pundit believes Alexander Isak is an unrealistic target, but he does think Gyokeres could head to the Emirates due to how poor Manchester United have been recently.

“There’s been a lot of talk about Alexander Isak, but would Newcastle sell him to a Premier League rival? I can’t see that happening,” Smith said.

“Gyokeres, the lad at Sporting, he continues to knock the goals in, I know it’s the Portuguese League, he’s of a good age, technically he would be good enough for Arsenal, that would be one. When Ruben Amorim went to United I thought Gyokeres would go to United, but now with United not being in the Champions League, that could change things.”

Viktor Gyokeres compared to Alexander Isak

Great Swedish strikers often seem to come two at a time.

Indeed, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrik Larsson were international teammates for a time in the early 2000s, and now both Gyokeres and Isak are shining on Europe’s biggest stages.

Arsenal are keen on both strikers, and there is an interesting debate to be had about which player the Gunners should sign.

The stats here tell an interesting story.

Viktor Gyokeres Alexander Isak
30 Games 31
38 Goals 22
6 Assists 6
£67m Pricetag £120m

Gyokeres has been scoring more than Isak this season, but the Portuguese League is a different beast to the Premier League.

Isak is proven in the English top flight, and that is invaluable.

However, with Isak being valued at £120m and Gyokeres being available for £67m, there may be more value to be had in signing the Sporting star.
