David Moyes’ departure from West Ham United hasn’t had the desired effect in east London.

Indeed, fans called for Moyes to leave West Ham for quite some time, but this has been very much a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’.

Julen Lopetegui replaced Moyes, and while there was an initial excitement around Lopetegui’s arrival at the London Stadium, Lopetegui did a poor job at West Ham and was swiftly sacked.

Graham Potter has since come in at West Ham, but results haven’t improved for the Hammers lately, as the league table shows.

What David Moyes has been saying about West Ham

Cole shared details of a chat he had with David Moyes this week.

Cole had been filming at the Everton training ground this week, and he caught up with the former West Ham boss.

According to Cole, Moyes still has a real soft spot for the Hammers, while he spoke about what a good job he’d done at the club.

“I was at Everton as well this week. I have been about, and I was with David Moyes, and we were chatting about West Ham. He holds the club in such fondness,” Cole said.

“Yeah, everyone loves West Ham, but he was telling me it’s remarkable what he’d done at the club, the semi-final, the Conference League final. And in the club, that’s one of them, they got rid of him, and everyone was expecting, right, just going to change this brand of football. And it just, Lopetegui, it went a bit sideways.”

Cole then spoke about Graham Potter’s situation at West Ham.

“Graham’s now trying to figure it out, isn’t he? Trying to figure out, find the solution. And I just think, whatever happens in the summer, whatever way West Ham has done, just commit to it,” Cole said.

“Don’t dangle a leg. If you’re gonna stick with Graham Potter, stick with Graham Potter, and let him go, if you think you’re gonna go somewhere, I just don’t like this, quit switching it around at West Ham.”

Moyes was speaking to Cole about what a good job he’d done at West Ham, and, to be fair, the Scot has every right to be proud of what he did with the Hammers.

Indeed, during his second spell at West Ham, Moyes did a fantastic job with the club, winning major silverware and consistently challenging for European places.

Lopetegui and Potter would ultimately take up the West Ham post after Moyes, and the stats show that the Hammers have seriously gone backwards since Moyes’ departure.

Of course, hindsight is always 20/20, and it’s easy to say now that getting rid of Moyes was a mistake, but, West Ham should’ve known better.

Let’s not forget, this isn’t the first time West Ham have ditched Moyes only to go backwards, and, this time, unlike in 2019, the London club won’t be able to just bring Moyes back as he’s back at Everton and thriving.
