TBR Football recently confirmed that Man United are stepping up their pursuit of Cunha in wake of his superb 2024/25 campaign so far.

Better still for Manchester United, they now appear not to have as much competition due to Arsenal and Liverpool cooling their interest in Cunha.

Wolves teammate Matt Doherty has now made a claim about Cunha that will be music to Man United’s ears ahead of the summer transfer window.

Matt Doherty tips Manchester United target Matheus Cunha for ‘the highest level imaginable’

Doherty is the latest guest on Sky Sports show Sticker Book Challenge, in which guests are invited to pick their favourite candidate from a four-option list.

One of the topics was Top Teammate, where Doherty had to pick between Matheus Cunha, Son Heung-min, Harry Kane or Antoine Griezmann.

Doherty claimed that Cunha should be playing week-in, week-out for Atletico Madrid and backed him to be “playing at the highest level imaginable” soon.

He said: “Sometimes it takes you to move away from a place to find yourself, to realize what you need to do, maybe to get back to a place.

“Because he should be playing week-in, week-out for Atletico.

“That’s not the case but I’m pretty sure he’s going to be playing at the highest level imaginable – Champions League, stuff like that – pretty soon. Huge, huge potential.”

The good news Matheus Cunha’s camp has recently given Manchester United

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey recently revealed some good news for Man United on the Cunha front.

The Red Devils recently spoke with Cunha’s camp and TBR Football understands a primary aspect of those talks was over his release clause.

Specifically, they wanted to figure out whether Cunha’s release clause – worth just over £60million – will need to be paid in full, or whether Wolves will accept the fee in instalments.

Sources have stated that Man United have been assured they won’t need to pay all in one go, providing a significant boost to the Red Devils in their hopes of signing Cunha.
