Bayern Munich appears to be setting things up for a big move…

According to a report from Sky Sport journalists Florian Plettenberg and Marlon Irlbacher (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich remains undeterred in its pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Bayern Munich has reached an agreement on personal terms with Wirtz, but that news was quickly refuted by Die Werkself. Now, Sky Sport is reporting that nothing has been “confirmed” regarding the initial report, which leaves things exactly where they were yesterday.

However, Sky Sport also indicates that Bayern Munich appears to be confident in getting Wirtz this summer:

From Bayern’s perspective, nothing has changed regarding Florian Wirtz at the moment – Based on numerous meetings and phone calls between the club and the Wirtz family, Bayern still have the feeling that Wirtz wants to join them – even this summer. However, no one has confirmed a complete verbal agreement as things stand.

Nevertheless, a deal would not fall through due to Wirtz’s salary demands. Wirtz could earn between €20-25 million per year at Bayern. He would also be offered a five-year contract. In the event of leaving Leverkusen, Wirtz and his family would still prefer a move to Munich, before eventually making the step abroad later in his career.

As things stand, Leverkusen have not received any official communication from the Wirtz camp that the player wants to leave at the end of the season. Furthermore, there are currently neither negotiations nor direct talks between Bayern and Leverkusen regarding Wirtz.

Leverkusen will demand at least €120-130m fixed plus add-ons for Wirtz this summer if he rejects a contract extension. Manchester City remain hopeful.

The Wirtz saga will likely not end any time soon. The two clubs have — allegedly — not even started discussions which will inevitably drag out for a few weeks — if not months.
