For the first time in a while, the Toffees seem to have some stability, with David Moyes comfortably steering Everton towards Premier League survival after replacing Sean Dyche in January.

Stability and a convincing project can often help to lure transfer targets, and Everton have already decided to make a move for a new left-back in Nuno Tavares.

Everton express interest in Nuno Tavares

Gianluca Di Marzio has now claimed that Everton are keen to sign the Lazio No.30 this summer.

Tavares – who Arsenal loaned to Lazio back in July, but with a £7m obligation to buy this summer – has shone since his move to Rome, impressively providing nine assists from defence in 28 appearances.

The Portugal international is also wanted by Fulham and Juventus – according to Di Marzio – leaving Lazio with a chance to make a quick profit on their £7m investment.

Tavares – who has been called a “top level” footballer – has, however, missed 17 games for club and country due to injuries this season, which Everton will need to be wary of before making a bid.

Interest in the Lazio speedster could suggest Moyes is either unhappy with Vitalii Mykolenko on the left of his defence, or is simply keen to push the Ukrainian to improve by finding competition.

Nottingham Forest could have signed Nuno Tavares for £12m

The 25-year-old certainly had a good go at English football before deciding to leave for Serie A.

Tavares spent time on loan with Nottingham Forest in the 2023/24 campaign, struggling to impress in his eight appearances, and consequently failing to convince the Reds he was worth paying £12m for – the value of the purchase option agreed between them and Arsenal.

Now – to his credit – the man born in Lisbon is starting to realise his vast potential in Italy, where his fine development could soon lead to another Premier League opportunity at Everton.
