Ian Wright says Wesley Fofana can’t be trustedWesley Fofana injury history

Before Christmas, Chelsea looked like title contenders, but now, the Blues are hanging onto a top five spot and Enzo Maresca is being questioned.

Chelsea, sadly, have had problems in terms of inconsistency, and many of their players have proven to be unreliable.

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Ian Wright has been discussing some of Chelsea’s defensive issues, and he says that Wesley Fofana is a player who simply can’t be relied upon.

Wright has called for Chelsea to sign an experienced defender on a number of occasions, and now, he’s singled Fofana out as a player who he thinks needs replacing due to his injury problems.

Ian Wright says Wesley Fofana can’t be trusted

Wright spoke about the £70m man and his situation at Chelsea.

Fofana has had injury problems since day one at Stamford Bridge, and as those issues pile up, Wright says he can no longer be trusted as a player.

“The one who came from Leicester, Fofana, unfortunately for him the injuries that he’s had, we can’t see it, we can’t see it continuously, so you can’t count on him. I think again he’s someone that they’ll have to…” Wright said.

Wright says that Fofana can’t be trusted as a player, and, sadly, he’s right.

The centre-back is, in simple terms, too injury prone.

It’s always awful to see a player’s career destroyed by injuries, but, sometimes, you just have to hold your hands up and admit you have a player who is in this situation.

Fofana’s injury history tells the full story here.

Fofana is a very talented player, but, as the old saying goes, the best ability is availability.

We’ve seen talented players have their careers ruined by injuries before. Abou Diaby was meant to be a star at Arsenal, but his career was cut short, and Jack Wilshere had a similar story at the Emirates too.

If Fofana can get fit, that would be a huge bonus for Chelsea, but, for now, they can’t be planning for a future where Fofana is available for selection every week.
