Ahead of a busy summer when Arsenal plan to spend a significant amount of money on a striker, Andrea Berta is thought to have whittled it down to two main targets.
Arsenal are seemingly aiming to find an upgrade on Gabriel Jesus, someone who can compete for Kai Havertz’s starting spot.
Mikel Arteta is currently having to do without both of his strikers owing to season-ending injuries, a situation which is very well documented at this point.
And whilst Mikel Merino is thriving as a striker, that’s obviously not going to be a long-term solution for Arsenal.
Therefore, Berta is considering a move for Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko this summer — two strikers the club have scouted extensively.
Benjamin Sesko is not Kai Havertz’s upgrade
Whilst Gyokeres could be an interesting candidate for Arsenal, even if his strengths may not marry to Arteta’s team too obviously, signing Sesko might be a mistake.
Sesko is obviously a very talented striker, one with an incredibly high ceiling judging by his performances in the Bundesliga.
But at 21-years-old, is Sesko the striker to immediately take Arsenal to the next level?

That’s the task — there’s no point in Berta signing a striker to play second-fiddle to Havertz and learn on the job.
Arsenal’s project is ready to win now, explaining why Gyokeres might be a much better alternative to Alexander Isak than Sesko.
In an ideal world Arsenal would simply pluck Isak from Newcastle United’s clutches, but that’s currently looking unlikely to happen.
Newcastle want Isak to stay at St James’ Park, and there’s no reason for the club to accept any approaches.
Andrea Berta needs to find ‘win now’ players
If Arsenal don’t sign Sesko this summer, he might be a player who will cost £100m plus in two or three years time, he’s certainly showing that kind of potential.
However, Arsenal can’t make their decision on that basis, the club need a striker who can help them win trophies now.
Arteta’s project is no longer about finding the next best youngster or improving their squad depth — and aside from the club’s interest in Sesko, Berta seems to understand that.
Arsenal are gunning to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad who will make an immediate impact in their midfield.
And in terms of who comes in as the club’s next number nine, there has to be a genuine belief that they are better than Havertz in some aspects, otherwise Arteta may as well stick with the German, supported by Jesus and Merino.
