“Don’t call it a comeback, I been here for years.”-LL Cool J
On April 4th, Bayern Munich’s season effectively ended with the injury of Jamal Musiala. Musiala overstretched on an attempt to block a clearance from the Augsburg goalkeeper and subsequently tore his hamstring. Musiala’s injury was the straw that broke the camel’s back, as he joined Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, Manuel Neuer, and Hiroki Itō on the injured reserve list.
Musiala has worked tirelessly over the past month and is confident that he will be able to return earlier than expected.
“I started working on my comeback on the first day after my injury, and so far everything is going according to plan,” said Musiala (via @iMiaSanMia). “I have one big goal: the Club World Cup. Because there’s a lot of prestige at stake, revenue for the club, and a new international title. And we want to win it. I want to be back on the pitch in the USA.”
The average recovery time for a torn hamstring is three to six months. This would put the Club World Cup at the forefront of that timeline. Musiala should be applauded for his ambitious goal but it is Bayern’s responsibility to be overly cautious with their most valuable player.
