Arsenal were fancied to beat PSG, but after a 1-0 defeat at the Emirates, Arsenal are no longer favourites to make the final.

A number of players weren’t good enough on Tuesday. Leandro Trossard has been criticised after the game, while, speaking on TalkSPORT, Danny Murphy has shared his verdict on Martin Odegaard’s performance against PSG.

The pundit says he was very disappointed by Odegaard’s showing against the Ligue 1 giants, claiming that he seemed over-awed by the occasion and played too safely.

Danny Murphy disappointed by Martin Odegaard vs PSG

Murphy shared his verdict on Odegaard’s performance vs PSG.

The pundit says he was disappointed by Odegaard, namely because he thought the Norwegian wasn’t taking enough risks during the match.

Odegaard has been criticised for not turning up in big games before, and now, Murphy has re-iterated that criticism.

“What did you think of Odegaard?” Murphy was asked.

“Disappointed, I actually was disappointed, he’s a quality player, but I think he gets over-awed by those real big ones. I can see it in him, he’s not as risky in his play. He’s not as free. He was part of a team that went to Madrid and won and played well, but those killer passes and key moments, no, he was very safe,” Murphy said.

Murphy says he was disappointed with Odegaard’s performance vs PSG, and it’s easy to understand why.

Indeed, the midfielder simply wasn’t good enough in what was Arsenal’s biggest game of the season so far.

The Arsenal captain is meant to lead by example, but he froze on the big stage, as his stats show.

There have been calls for Declan Rice to replace Odegaard as captain, and after Rice was praised for his performance against PSG, it has to be said there’s a case to be made for Rice being a better leader than Odegaard, particularly in these make-or-break matches.

Mikel Arteta may soon have a captaincy decision to make at Arsenal.
