Real Madrid have suffered this season as they have lost the final of the Supercopa de España and the Copa del Rey to FC Barcelona. They have also been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League’s quarterfinal by Arsenal. The La Liga giants are trailing Barcelona by four points in the league, and hence it is a tough time for the club at this period.

The Los Blancos might be ready to make significant changes to their squad in the summer. Thibaut Courtois is at the fag end of his career, but he will still be the number one goalkeeper for the team. However, his deputy, Andriy Lunin, has been warming the bench, and he might be looking to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in search of regular game time. Hence, the club might be in need of a goalkeeper in the summer.

Real Madrid Want To Sign Kepa Arrizabalaga

According to a report by Spanish journalists Sergio Fernandez and Alfredo Mantilla, Real Madrid are interested in Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The 30-year-old has had a tough time at the Santiago Bernabeu since his high-profile move from Athletic Bilbao. The Spaniard has also enjoyed a loan spell at Real Madrid, and he is currently playing his part on loan for Bournemouth.

Real Madrid have been keeping tabs on his performances. If we talk about his stats, Arrizabalaga has conceded 33 goals and kept seven clean sheets in 27 matches in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. That means when the Spaniard is in goal, his team concedes a goal every 74 minutes. Kepa Arrizabalaga’s per 90 minutes goals conceded stat is 1.22. In terms of raw goalkeeping, he has saved 85 of the 118 shots faced, meaning Kepa Arrizabalaga’s save percentage is 72.03%.

Should they sign him?

Kepa Arrizabalaga is a talented goalkeeper who brings a lot to the table. He is quick off his line, sharp with his reflexes, and comfortable playing out from the back—traits that fit well in modern football. The Spaniard has also been in high-pressure situations before, from major cup finals to Champions League nights, so he knows what it takes at the top level. His experience and calm presence can be valuable assets for any squad.

That said, Kepa’s career has had its ups and downs. While he is capable of brilliant saves, he has also been prone to lapses in concentration, and consistency has sometimes been an issue. Real Madrid’s interest makes sense—he has played in La Liga, knows the club, and could provide reliable cover. But with Thibaut Courtois locked in as the No. 1, bringing Kepa back might not be the most forward-thinking move. Instead, Madrid might be better off investing in a younger, high-upside keeper who could eventually grow into a long-term solution.
