Saudi Pro League target three Premier League stars in blockbuster summer transfer raid

Emiliano Martinez, Leon Bailey and Darwin Nunez are the targets of another Saudi Pro League swoop as they prepare for a statement summer.

The two Aston Villa players could aid the club’s PSR worries while Nunez, who has become surplus to requirements at Liverpool, could fund a new forward’s incoming.

This season was the first in which the £100million sale of Jack Grealish has not given Villa a boost in relation to PSR calculations.

It is a problem worsened by a wage bill which meant wages as a proportion of turnover hit 91 percent – the highest of any Premier League club.

Ollie Watkins has been linked with a move away but Martinez and Bailey could be the ones to follow in the footsteps of former teammates Moussa Diaby and Jhon Duran.

“There is concrete interest from Saudi Arabia in both,” said talkSPORT’s Saudi football correspondent Ben Jacobs.

“I’m expecting another big Saudi window much like in summer 2023. They’ll come in waves because there are foreign quotas.”

He revealed that Martinez is more inclined to stay at Villa but clubs such as Al Hilal, Neom, and Al-Qadisiyah are interested in acquiring his signature.

Bailey, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury, has caught the eye of Al-Fateh where former West Ham boss Slaven Bilic previously managed.

Al-Khaleej who once tried to Jamie Vardy is also keen on the Jamaican.

Gabby Abonglahor quoted £50m for the winger but Jacobs squashed his hopes.

“Possibly not that high,” he said. “But enough to satisfy Aston Villa’s PSR concerns.”

Darwin Nunez is also on the checklist of a Saudi Arabian side but he has also been on the radar of Atletico Madrid.

Under Jurgen Klopp Nunez struggled to become a mainstay in the starting eleven and Arne Slot seems to favour the Uruguayan even less.

The forward has only made eight league starts this season, logging 1,007 minutes in 26 appearances.

In frustration of his lack of game time he tweeted on Saturday: “No wonder I didn’t play more, because the last game I started in the Premier League went well and suddenly…”

Jacobs speaking about Nunez, revealed: “There will be Saudi interest. There is Atletico Madrid interest. With Atleti they are saying £45m on a loan possibly with an obligation.

“Saudi have already made a verbal offer from January of €75m (£65m).”
