The Spurs midfielder had been an ever-present in Ange Postecoglou’s line-up in recent months, growing into a top player at N17.

However, Bergvall missed out on a spot in Tottenham’s matchday squad for their biggest game of the season so far.

The Swedish prodigy was ruled out due to an ankle injury, and worrying footage has now emerged of the player at the game.

Ange Postecoglou said before the game that Lucas Bergvall tweaked his ankle in training and would be out of action for the Bodo/Glimt clash.

“Unfortunately, for Lucas, he picked up an injury in training yesterday,” Ange said.

“He just tweaked his ankle unfortunately and he misses out tonight, which is disappointing for him because he’s been outstanding for us this year.

“Obviously he’s hugely disappointed with that but, unfortunately, he misses out.”

Bergvall was spotted at the game, coming out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tunnel – but worryingly, he was on crutches, as per footage by Chris Cowlin.

Postecoglou went with a midfield trio of James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma for the game against Bodo/Glimt.

The Tottenham manager backed Bissouma to do a good job in Bergvall’s absence ahead of the match.

“I just think the balance of our midfield with what we need to do tonight and what we’re facing up against,” the Spurs boss said.

“The beauty of Lucas was that he gave us the balance in there and for tonight Biss will give us more of the input we need.”

Bergvall has been a huge success story for Tottenham this season and, better still, he has just signed a new contract at the club until 2031.

Spurs fans were absolutely buzzing with Bergvall’s new contract, with one deeming it the best news of the season.

Tottenham cult heroes Robbie Keane and Michel Vorm also applauded Bergvall’s new deal.

Hopefully Bergvall will not be on the sidelines for too long and can make a swift return for the second leg and beyond.
