Dean Huijsen transfer latest: Liverpool ‘favorites’, Real Madrid’s Chelsea ‘concern’, Iraola admission

Liverpool has been given a boost in its pursuit of Dean Huijsen. The Bournemouth defender is expected to move this summer, with a host of the Premier League’s biggest clubs interested.

Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Newcastle United have also been linked with a move for the Liverpool target, along with Real Madrid. But according to the i Paper, one club already accepts that Huijsen’s future is unlikely to lie with them.

The outlet claims Newcastle held talks with Huijsen’s representatives and “there is a feeling his interests lie elsewhere”. The Magpies are reportedly in the market for a new center-back this summer, with Marc Guehi also linked with a transfer to the North-East for a second summer in a row.

But Liverpool and Chelsea remain favorites to sign Huijsen, with Arsenal also in the running, the i reports. Guarantees over game time and the ability to play in the Champions League are also said to be important for the 20-year-old, who has a buyout clause of £50million ($66M).

That would match a report from Spain, with AS stating that Real is concerned about Chelsea’s “ determination to sign Huijsen”. The Blues could try to wrap up a deal in next month’s 10-day transfer window, which has been brought in ahead of the Club World Cup in the USA.

Meanwhile, Huijsen is not the only Bournemouth player attracting attention after a stellar campaign for the Cherries. Milos Kerkez and Antoine Semenyo have been heavily linked with summer departures, and Liverpool is a reported admirer of both players.

There could be a major rebuilding job needed at the Vitality ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, something even manager Andoni Iraola has acknowledged, with the Bournemouth boss discussing the possibility of players leaving.

“I don’t think it’s any different from previous years, especially when the team has done a good job,” the Spaniard said in a press conference on Thursday.

“It happened to us last season. We didn’t know what was going to happen with some players. We lost Lloyd Kelly and after that Dom Solanke.

“We don’t really know what is going to happen in the summer. We are still focused on other things, but right now all the players are ours and, if nothing happens, they will continue to be ours next season also. So I don’t think it’s going to be different from other summers.

“We will focus on trying to improve the team and add new players if we can. If some player leaves because someone comes with what the club considers to be a good offer.

“We have to be ready for those situations, but not with fear. It is something that all the clubs, especially the ones who are not at the highest level, like the top, top teams, have to get used to.”
