Manchester United have had quite the decline over the past decade or so.
Indeed, from being the most successful team in Premier League history to a 12-year title drought, it’s fair to say that Manchester United have struggled in recent times.
United are currently at their lowest ebb in a generation as they’re set for their lowest-ever Premier League finish.

A lot has been made of this United team and the difference between Alex Ferguson’s legenday sides of yesteryear.
Teddy Sheringham reckons Casemiro never would’ve played under Ferguson, and now, speaking to Al Arabiya News, Harry Redknapp has claimed there’s only one current United player Fergie would’ve had.

Redknapp spoke about how football has changed over the past 20 years.
According to the former Tottenham boss, Bruno Fernandes is the only current United player who would get into a Alex Ferguson team.
Nicky Butt reckons Fernandes wouldn’t last under Ferguson, but Redknapp says he’s good enough to be a part of his squad.
“One thing, I think you look back at those players in the 1990s and 2000s. How many of the United team would get into Fergie’s teams? Maybe Fernandes would have been in the squad, after that you probably couldn’t find a player who would’ve broke into one of Alex’s great teams at Old Trafford,” Redknapp said.

Redknapp says Fernandes would get into Alex Ferguson’s United teams, and, interestingly, Fergie is indeed a fan of the midfielder.
Back in 2021, Alex Ferguson hailed Fernandes as a ‘fantastic’ player, via Manchester United’s website.
“Well, he’s been fantastic the lad,” Ferguson said.
“He’s scored important goals and even when he’s taking his penalty kicks he’s very, very confident about them and I can’t even think if a goalkeeper’s got anywhere near his penalty kicks.
“So he’s calm, his shots from outside the box are always a threat and he’s got the thing that United have really needed in the last few years with his ability to make a pass in the final third.
“It opens up defences and I think that’s important.”
Of course, Ferguson famously played a 4-4-2 system for most of his time at United, so it would be interesting to see where Fernandes would’ve fit in that team.
Fernandes has been fantastic for United this season, and, in all honesty, he deserves much better than to be playing for a bottom-half Premier League side.
