Aston Villa could be set for a big summer transfer window.
Indeed, the Villans are still in the mix for Champions League qualification this season, and heading into next term, they will want to build on the foundations that Unai Emery continues to lay.
Aston Villa may make a permanent move for Marcus Rashford, and Arsenal are still keen on Ollie Watkins so more attacking additions may be needed.
Speaking on his podcast, Peter Crouch has been discussing where Matheus Cunha will end up this summer.
Cunha has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United, but Crouch likes the idea of the Brazilian joining Aston Villa, claiming that would be a ‘special’ move.
Peter Crouch talks up Matheus Cunha to Aston Villa
Crouch discussed the idea of Cunha joining Wolves alongside Steve Sidwell.
Cunha has a £63m release clause heading into this summer, and he will almost certainly be on the move from Wolves.
Crouch particularly likes the idea of Cunha moving to Villa Park, claiming that this project could be perfect for the Brazilian.
“Yeah, which means he can go anywhere. But I’m just thinking to the remainder of the season, he’s still going to want to go out on a high, show people. I mean, I don’t know whether he said it’s already been sorted out where he’s going to go possibly But you’d like to think he’s going to just put in a bit of an extra shift to go out with a bang,” Sidwell said.
“I saw a picture of him in a Villa shirt that someone had obviously mocked up. That would be pretty special. They’re going places, aren’t they? That would be big. That’s a project,” Crouch said.
Aston Villa record transfers
With Cunha’s release clause set at £63m this summer, this will not be a cheap deal.
Aston Villa are cutting it fine in terms of PSR at the moment, but there could be a few player sales to offset some of that.
Leon Bailey could leave Villa, while Emi Martinez has been linked with a move away too.
Even with those sales, Cunha would represent a huge investment. In fact, Cunha would be Aston Villa’s most expensive signing ever.
Aston Villa’s record transfers | Fee |
Moussa Diaby | £52m |
Amadou Onana | £50m |
Ian Maatsen | £38m |
Emi Buendia | £33m |
Pau Torres | £31m |
Villa have spent big money in the past, but £63m would represent a new record signing at Villa Park, and while the club are very ambitious, that sort of fee could be beyond them this summer.
