Tottenham have achieved something in Europe no other English side has this season

Tottenham are just one game away from reaching the Europa League final, offering a glimmer of hope in what has otherwise been a dismal season.

The North London side currently sits 16th in the Premier League, having suffered a staggering 19 defeats in 34 matches. They’ve also been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions, leaving the Europa League as their only remaining path to silverware.

For Ange Postecoglou, lifting the trophy would not only end Spurs’ long-standing wait for major trophies but also secure a coveted place in next season’s Champions League.

On Thursday night, Tottenham cruised to a 3-1 victory over Bodo/Glimt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. With the second leg to come, Spurs are widely backed to reach the final.

Tottenham create incredible unbeaten record in Europe

It was a dominant display from Spurs, who took control of the tie right from the start.

Brennan Johnson opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the game, netting the fastest goal ever in a Europa League semi-final.

James Maddison doubled the advantage in the 34th minute, before Dominic Solanke added a third from the penalty spot in the second half.

Bodo/Glimt pulled one back late on, giving the Norwegian side a lifeline ahead of the second leg.

With the win, Tottenham achieved a feat no other English club has managed this season. They are now unbeaten in their last 20 home matches in European competition (including qualifiers) — the longest active home run by any English side in Europe this season.

Could winning the Europa League save Ange Postecoglou’s job at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain, with multiple reports suggesting he could be sacked at the end of the season.

Not only has the Premier League campaign been disappointing, but the Australian has also clashed with Tottenham fans on several occasions this season, sparking further talks about a potential sack.

Thomas Frank has been linked with the Tottenham job, as several names have been touted as potential replacements for the Australian.

However, Postecoglou may yet have a lifeline. Delivering Tottenham’s first trophy since 2008 could be enough to save his job.

The former Celtic manager boasts a track record of winning silverware in his second season at every club he has managed — a trend he’ll be desperate to maintain.

Spurs are now favourites to reach the Europa League final, where they are likely to face Manchester United — a team they’ve already beaten three times this season.
