‘It’s not looking too good’: Jamie Carragher worried by what may be happening at Liverpool now

4 Min Read

Liverpool have been on the highest of highs this past week after they won their 20th league title against Tottenham last Sunday.

It’s been a real carnival atmosphere on Merseyside all week, and Liverpool fans, quite rightly, are basking in their triumph.

However, it’s soon back to reality for the Reds as there are a number of situations at the club that need resolving.

Liverpool have a big summer transfer window ahead of them. Darwin Nunez is set to leave Liverpool, while Alexander Isak has been linked to Liverpool.

However, perhaps the most worrying ongoing saga at Liverpool is Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation.

Alexander-Arnold has been strongly linked to Real Madrid, and while a deal hasn’t officially been announced yet, Liverpool’s hopes of keeping Alexander-Arnold appear to be more and more thin each day.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Alexander-Arnold’s situation at Anfield.

Jamie Carragher worried by Trent Alexander-Arnold situation

Carragher spoke about Alexander-Arnold and his potential departure.

The pundit says that he really wants the right-back to stay, but, ultimately, he admitted that it’s not looking good at the moment.

“I hope he is (staying), he’s a unique footballer, that’s why Real Madrid want to sign him, and that’s why he’s been a part of one of the most successful eras in Liverpool’s history. We all want that to continue, but, at the moment it’s not looking too good,” Carragher said.

“When you look at the scenes at the weekend, Trent being involved in that, you watch that hoping that will sway him to put pen to paper, but all will be revealed in the next few weeks.”

Players who almost left Liverpool and changed their mind

Alexander-Arnold does looks set for a Liverpool departure, but we have seen last-minute U-turns at Anfield in the past.

Indeed, Steven Gerrard nearly left Liverpool on numerous occasions, only to remain loyal to the Merseyside club.

Meanwhile, Luis Suarez was keen to join Arsenal at one point in 2013, but he decided to stay at Liverpool in the end.

On top of that, just this year, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah’s contracts were very close to expiring, but both men ultimately decided to stay put.

We’ve seen dramatic U-turns happen at Anfield in the past, and, who knows? Perhaps there could be one final twist in the tale with Alexander-Arnold here.
