Jamie Carragher says something could now happen at Liverpool that hasn’t happened in over 30 years

Liverpool are the Premier League champions, and, in the end, they won the title at a canter.

Indeed, the Reds have been crowned as Premier League winners with four games of the season to go, and they could end up on 94 points if all goes to plan.

Liverpool have been brilliant this season, Mohamed Salah has been in Ballon d’Or winning form, while Arne Slot has utterly transformed some players.

Speaking to The RedMen TV, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Liverpool’s current situation, and the pundit reckons that, for the first time in over 30 years, Liverpool could head into next season as title favourites.

Liverpool may be title favourites for the first time in 30 years

Carragher spoke about Liverpool’s current position, and their title hopes next season.

The pundit reckons Liverpool may be seen as title favourites next season for the first time in the Premier League era.

Liverpool weren’t fancied to win the league this season, but, Carragher reckons the Reds could be favourites next year.

EXCLUSIVE: Jamie Carragher On Liverpool’s Premier League Title Win & More!

“Bascially we’re in a position where people are saying we’re favourites to win the league. I don’t think we’ve ever been in a position. You’d probably have to go back to the last time we celebrated winning the league at Anfield in the very early 90s,” Carragher said.

“We were a brilliant team under Klopp, but Man City started every year in most people’s eyes as favourites and the team to beat.

“Next season we could be in a position to start as favourites as the first time ever I back Liverpool to win the league, so strike while the iron is hot.”

The last time Liverpool retained the league title

Liverpool could head into next season as title favourites for the first time in 30 years, but, interestingly, it’s been over 40 years since Liverpool won back-to-back league titles.

The last time Liverpool won consecutive league titles was in the 1983/84 season, and that season was historical for the Reds.

Indeed, Liverpool actually won a treble that year of the First Division, European Cup and League Cup, and it has to be considered Liverpool’s greatest ever season.

Arne Slot will have worked another miracle if he manages to match that sort of feat next season, but after what has been a remarkable debut campaign on Merseyside for the Dutchman, you wouldn’t back against him.

Liverpool could be set for another very special campaign next season.
