Kevin De Bruyne announced last month that he will be leaving Manchester City on a free transfer.
The midfielder expressed his surprise that the club chose not to offer him a new contract, despite his clear desire to stay.
Manchester City’s decision not to extend his deal has not gone down well with De Bruyne, who has firmly established himself as a club legend during his time at the Etihad.
Having previously voiced his disappointment, the midfielder appeared to aim another subtle dig at the club following his standout performance against Wolves.
Kevin de Bruyne fires shots at Manchester City
De Bruyne put in a match-winning performance against Wolves on Friday night, scoring the only goal of the game to boost City’s chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
The goal came in the 35th minute, with Doku showing incredible skill to get past the Wolves defenders before cutting it back for the Belgian, who fired in a first-time shot from the edge of the box.
The goal was enough to win City the game, and after the match, De Bruyne made sure to take a subtle dig at the club’s decision to let go of him.
Speaking to the media after the game, he said: “I showed I can still play here [in the Premier League] otherwise I don’t do what I have done in these last four or five weeks.
“Obviously I know I’ve got one game left here [at the Etihad], but I just try to do my job like I’ve always done, and I did that today, so I am proud of what I am doing. I give everything and I want to win the game.
“A lot of teammates have spoken to me and I think they are also sad that I have to go but sometimes it goes like this.”
What is next for Kevin De Bruyne
While Manchester City are set to lose their star player, a number of clubs—both in England and abroad—are expected to express strong interest in signing him.
Saudi Arabian clubs have been after the midfielder since last summer and could reignite their pursuit during the upcoming transfer window. Meanwhile, MLS side Inter Miami are also keen to sign De Bruyne.
Another stunning move could be to Man City’s Premier League rivals, Liverpool. Although the Reds have not been formally linked with a move for the midfielder, De Bruyne would love to play for Liverpool, as previously admitted by the player.

The Belgian, however, has not ruled out a move to another Premier League side, suggesting he is open to all possibilities.
And following the recent game against Wolves, he echoed that stance once again with his post-match comments.
It remains to be seen whether the treble-winner will stay in England or seek a new challenge abroad, whether in Europe, MLS, or Saudi Arabia.
