Manchester United told ‘there’s no point’ signing Matheus Cunha if they don’t fix one major issue

Manchester United are preparing for a massive summer transfer window as INEOS look to reshape the squad following a disastrous campaign.

The Red Devils have endured a season to forget and currently sit 15th in the Premier League table with just 39 points, having lost 15 games.

Their only hope of salvaging the campaign lies in the Europa League, which remains their final route to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Despite the dismal form, the club’s new owners, INEOS, remain confident in manager Ruben Amorim and are reportedly ready to back him heavily, with United aiming to make five new signings.

Wolves striker Matheus Cunha is among the targets for Manchester United, with the Reds Devils said to be leading the race to sign him. However, not everyone agrees with that approach.

Manchester United urged to focus on signing a new midfielder

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has publicly urged the club to prioritise the midfield over a new striker like Cunha, insisting it is the area most in need of urgent reinforcement.

Parker told Express Sport: “The midfield [is the priority]. It has to be the midfield.

“And yes, a centre forward is needed, but there’s no point in just getting a centre forward if you can’t do anything with that midfield.”

He added that United need to recruit more athletic, disciplined players who can retain the ball and provide structure to a team that has often lacked control and energy.

“There are ones you would keep, but you’d go out, and you still look for more athletic players, players who play in a disciplined way.

“Ball retention would be [an important trait] so they can keep the ball better, as well as a team. And again, it’s athletic players with big hearts.

“That’s what you would look at at Manchester United because they’re a team who have not got enough legs.”

INEOS ready to make major changes to reshape Manchester United squad

INEOS are expected to be ruthless this summer as they aim to rebuild a squad capable of competing at the highest level again.

It has been previously reported by The Sun, that at least ten players could leave the club as part of a major clear-out.

Among those reportedly set to depart are Casemiro, Marcus Rashford, Christian Eriksen, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Jonny Evans, Tom Heaton, and Victor Lindelof.

The club is also expected to listen to offers for their goalkeeper, with Ruben Amorim keen on selling Andre Onana. Alejandro Garnacho has been linked with a potential exit as well.

In terms of arrivals, Manchester United have been linked with several high-profile players.

Alongside Matheus Cunha, Cole Palmer has emerged as a surprise target, with reports claiming that Palmer is open to a move to Man United.

Another midfielder on United’s radar is Adam Wharton, with the club reportedly weighing up a summer bid.

As the transfer window approaches, more names are likely to be linked with United as INEOS and Amorim begin shaping their vision for the club’s future. Whether those changes will be enough to restore the club to the top next season remains to be seen.
